Northeast Society, IIT Delhi
IIT Delhi can get pretty overwhelming. NESIITD is a home away from home. We set it up so you'd always have a place to fall back on.
We're not a formal club, we're your batchmates and seniors. Grabbing dinner when you're homesick, random jammings, tea breaks, we make sure you don't have to do college alone.
We are a collective of students from the eight states of Northeast India at IIT Delhi, supported by faculty members and staff.
The society was officially established on 18 January 2026, marked by an inaugural dinner event that brought together members of the community to initiate this shared platform.

The society seeks to celebrate and promote the rich and diverse culture of India. Through various events and initiatives, it aims to showcase the unique traditions, art forms, and identities of the Northeast region, contributing to the broader cultural diversity and inclusivity of IIT Delhi.
Support for Freshers
Transitioning into IIT Delhi can be challenging for students from the Northeast due to differences in culture, language, and administrative processes. The society aims to provide guidance and support during admissions, hostel allocation, and early campus life. The goal is to ease this transition, foster a sense of belonging, and minimize feelings of isolation.
Peer Support and Connections
The society strives to build a strong, inclusive ecosystem by fostering meaningful relationships among students through various initiatives. These connections are envisioned not only as emotional support systems but also as long-term networks for collaboration, mentorship, surviving rigorous semesters, figuring out internships, and so on.
Recognizing that access to information can often be a barrier to educational advancement, the society seeks to share knowledge and opportunities with students across Northeast India. Through outreach activities and mentorship initiatives, it aims to raise awareness of higher education, scholarships, research programs, and career pathways, empowering students to make informed decisions about their academic and professional futures.
The long term vision of the Northeast Society, IIT Delhi is to establish a connected network of Northeast societies across IITs in India. By taking a leadership role in this initiative, the society aims to create a unified platform for inter-institutional collaboration, cultural exchange, and long-term networking opportunities. The Northeast Society aims to serve as both a support system for students and a bridge across cultures within IIT Delhi.
